Cerebral palsy: proud of our 62,577,660 steps for research!

At the CSTJF and the PERL, Total’s employees did a round the world trip for the STEPtember challenge

« Walking for those who cannot walk is a wonderful initiative that helps raise employees’ awareness of cerebral palsy, while encouraging them to take up an activity for their own health and wellbeing. And, as I am the disability advisor and manager of Quality of Life at Work at Total in Pau, this fund-raising campaign fits in perfectly with the tasks in my job » explains Christelle, who got the operation off the ground at Total.

STEPtember is an international movement that has recently taken hold in France and is proposed locally by the ARIMOC association. It’s an event, focused on wellbeing and raising awareness to cerebral palsy, that takes place throughout the month of September. It encourages participants to be more active and live a healthier lifestyle by walking at least 10,000 steps (or equivalent in another sport) per day, while raising funds for research into cerebral palsy.

At Total we like a good challenge!

It’s the second time for the teams at Total that the STEPtember event has been held. The company paid the fees for 248 entries this year. The teams companywide walked 62,577,660 steps, the equivalent of a round the World trip, that ranks our sites in first place out of the 41 participating companies!

Beyond the pride in supporting the ARIMOC and the worthy cause we raised funds for, “we particularly favor this type of solidarity campaign as it encourages sharing and cohesion. Some of our employees took part for that reason, others because of their hardwired competitive nature, and for others, it was the health and wellbeing aspect of the challenge that appealed. So everyone found satisfaction in completing the challenge in their own way” Christelle affirms, adding that members of the same team could be located in Pau, Paris or Copenhagen.
