President E. Macron in Pau: the Senior VP of the CSTJF is taking part in the round table discussion on the ecological and energy transition

On January 14, 2020 on the day after the G5 Sahel summit at the Château de Pau, the President led a round-table discussion on ecology in French territories as part of the signature of the Ecological Transition Agreement ETA.

Chaired by the Secretary of State Emmanuelle Wargon, participants included Alain Rousset, President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Jean-Jacques Lasserre, President of the Pyrenées-Atlantiques departmental council, and key players in the ETA including Total, represented by Thierry Renard.

“We assume that the Total group doesn’t need any introduction anymore, and yet some people may wonder why an “oil” company is invited to participate in a round-table discussion on the ecological transition. We are effectively often presented as part of the climate change issue, but for us it’s quite the opposite – we believe that the Group has an instrumental role to play in implementing solutions to fight global warming in the long term!” explained the Group’s territorial representative in his speech.

Total has set itself the ambition of becoming the responsible energy major. In real terms, that means providing as many people as possible with reliable, clean and affordable energy, more respectful of the planet.

He then went on to reiterate that the Béarn region is a representative example of the Group’s evolution. The region became a “land of energies” almost 70 years ago when the giant gas field in Lacq was discovered, and is now focusing with determination on the energy and ecological transition – a momentum reflected in the many local initiatives to develop renewable energies.

In Pau, Total is involved in the ETA via its affiliate Total Quadran, a partner on the theme of “Developing photovoltaic power stations”. Many other projects of the same ilk are under way in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department.

Thierry Renard ended by evoking the existence of a “real positive synergy that took root several years ago in the Béarn region and continues to grow among industrial players, local communities and administrative bodies. The signature of the ETA today will boost the momentum of this synergy even further.”
