A production school for the Béarn region

The project team which is currently working on the creation of a new professional school in Pau paid a visit to schools where “doing means learning”.

We see the company as one of the City’s players, with a social and civic responsibility. As part of a sponsorship agreement, the Total Foundation committed to providing a financial aid of €60 million over 10 years to the FNEP (National federation of production schools). This makes Total the main partner of the FNEP for the development of its schools, particularly those designed for industrial professions.

A PROJECT FOR OUR REGION

Owing to its strong local presence, the CSTJF fired up its network to initiate a project for the creation of a production school in Pau. The steering committee that included this new place of learning in the Lacq-Pau-Tarbes regional industrial scheme meets on a regular basis. Based on the study conducted, factoring in the tensions on the local labor market, the first production school in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department will offer training courses in the field of machining.

To better understand how this type of school works and comprehend the method of teaching, the project team formed a delegation to visit industrial production schools (machining) in Besançon and Lyon.

The trip, organized and supported by the FNEP, took place on February 6 and 7, 2020. The meetings and fruitful discussions with the directors, instructors and students all helped to develop the “production school culture” of the project team members. It’s now full steam ahead to complete all the necessary actions so that the school can open in September 2020. Watch this space!

Total’s support is a very important act of recognition that will mark the history of production schools. Thanks to the means provided, this partnership with the Total Foundation will help us secure and broaden the future of our schools. Production schools are a real defense against school dropout since the idea is for students to exercise their profession while going to school, and renew with the pleasure of learning. In our schools, young people work for real clients, based on real orders, invoiced at the market price. When they finish their studies, it’s as if they had been working in a company, meaning they are operational straight away. As a matter of fact, 100% of our students find a job as soon as they leave!
Dominique Hiesse, President of the FNEP

I'm very proud that Total supports production schools. These schools are recognized for their success in terms of learning and the professional integration of young people. Some people might wonder what the link is between a multinational company and schools like these. I’m convinced that a group like Total, one of the winners of globalization, is duty-bound to share its successes with the regions who contributed to them. Of course, we are attached to France, its industry and its young people. Associating the name of a major industrial company with these practical training schools will help shine the spotlight on these sectors which are so important for young people to gain access to employment. The company is one of the City’s players, with a social and civic responsibility. Our proactive commitment, through this ambitious action for our young people and our regions, is proof of this.
