NANOSEIS, A MONITORING SOLUTION TO OPTIMIZE PRODUCTIVITY, ENSURE THE SAFETY AND INTEGRITY OF OUR OPERATIONS IN THE NON-CONVENTIONAL SECTOR.

Shale plays account for a growing share of global oil and gas production. Improving our ability to optimize the value of these hydrocarbons, which remain "trapped" in their source rock, is a key challenge for the future of energy. To meet this challenge, among the innovations developed at the CSTJF by our Geosciences and R&D teams, NanoSeis marks a significant step forward in the development of these non-conventional resources.

Dedicated to the processing and quality control of microseismic data, NanoSeis makes it possible to detect, model, map, understand and control microseismic phenomena related to fracturing, in real time. What is its purpose? To optimize the characterization of the stimulated rock volume (SRV) of wells. Thanks to optimized control of fracturing, this new acquisition and monitoring method makes it possible to improve oil and/or gas recovery from each well, while reducing costs, guaranteeing the safety of our operations and limiting our environmental impact to a strict minimum.

In order to confirm the level of technological maturity, we tested the NanoSeis solution on the oilfields of our Argentinian affiliate. The mission assigned to the NanoSeis project teams was to map the fracturing in several wells. This initial application enabled us to develop a version that was twice as powerful and accurate. Even today, continuous software improvement allows CSTJF geophysicists to develop new algorithms to improve the detection, location, depth and magnitude of microseismic events. Ultimately, NanoSeis will be used on all non-conventional assets to ensure the quality and safety of our operations. The next objective: to demonstrate the benefits of this new technology for conventional fields, to enhance our understanding of them and improve their production.
