Solidarity Team Building for the AJE

  • At the end of January, about fifty employees took part in a Solidarity Team Building session in partnership with the Association Jeunesse et Entreprises (AJE).
  • They ran three workshops on: Softskills, Preparation for the AJE challenge, Cybersecurity.
  • Objective: to help young people from five different schools to build their professional integration path.

“As part of the Group’s CSR commitment, any manager can set up a Solidarity Team Building session and involve employees who are willing to give of their time, in societal, social and environmental actions led in partnership with associations," explains Elise Ferreira, Action! Ambassador for South West France.

Time and skills

A wide variety of missions is proposed to employees in their working time as part of the Action! system, from just lending a hand to sharing skills: Cleaning up a forest, a beach or a river, restoring heritage buildings, making meals for an association that helps the homeless, a communication campaign for an association promoting road safety, fund-raising strategies for an integration association, etc. “Depending on what the team’s project is, I put them in touch with our partner associations in order to find an action that meets the expectations of both parties”, Elise Ferreira explains.

AJE Operation: very positive feedback

The five groups of high-school and university students who met employees from the CSTJF - remotely owing to the current health situation - found the “experience very positive and the support media a lot of fun”.

In the Softskills workshop, two classes of tenth grade students from the STAM high school in Bordeaux, played with Darth Vador and Luke Skywalker (Star Wars), to identify the key behavioral skills in a group: knowing how to manage time, motivate a team, put ideas across clearly, etc. The aim of the “Preparing the AJE challenges” workshop was to prepare three young people individually for a three-minute pitch and speaking in front of an audience. Another goal was to train them in making contact : defining a target, networking, sending e-mails, persuasive arguments on the phone, etc. They are now better equipped to tackle the AJE challenge which consists in presenting a company in their region.

The third Cybersecurity workshop was attended by two classes of apprentice-developers from the CFP Le Rebours (Paris) and employees from the Information Systems Division in Total, for 1hr30 of discussion.

Total employees also answered all the young people’s questions on Engineering courses and the possible careers they lead to, the skills for conducting an interview, geographical mobility at Total, the integration of young people in the team, etc. in an extremely productive series of question & answer session !
