TotalEnergies partners the Rugby World Cup

The broad-energies Company supports the Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées (Top 14) rugby team and has become an official sponsor of the Rugby World Cup France 2023.

  • The values shared by rugby and TotalEnergies brought our teams together many years ago, in particular in Pau.
  • The sponsorship agreement that links the region’s emblematic club as major partner, has been carried over for the 2021-2022 season.
  • TotalEnergies will also be present alongside the organization team of France 2023 for the worldwide and popular event that is the Rugby World Cup in France.
Arnaud Breuillac, Senior Vice President of the Exploration & Production Branch at TotalEnergies and Bernard Pontneau, President of the professional rugby club, the Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées.

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman & CEO of TotalEnergies declared: “It is an honor and a pleasure for TotalEnergies to be an official sponsor of the Rugby World Cup 2023. Integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect are key features of this sport, and they match our company’s values. More importantly, rugby is organized first and foremost around a team, just like TotalEnergies: a group of men and women committed to the energy transition. France is our home, especially southwestern France, a land of rugby that is an integral part of our history and DNA.”

In South West France, the sport has a particularly strong presence at the heart of the region and TotalEnergies has been supporting the Béarn region’s emblematic club for over 3 decades now. A commitment renewed on Wednesday June 23: the CSTJF welcomed Arnaud Breuillac, Senior Vice President of the Exploration & Production Branch at TotalEnergies and Bernard Pontneau, President of the professional rugby club, the Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées. Both parties signed the agreement to renew the partnership that unites them.

Prioritizing sustainable development

Rugby World Cup France 2023 and TotalEnergies are both committed to sustainability as an integral part of their strategy, projects and operations. A consideration already present in the company’s partnership with the Section: TotalEnergies was the driving force behind an eco-responsible approach in the club. On the Company’s initiative, in August 2020, the Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées became the first French club to market an eco-friendly rugby shirt. The “Greenest Rugby Shirt”, a replica designed for supporters, is made entirely of recycled plastic. 2021 was also a year when the club’s work and that of its major partner in the CSR sector was recognized, as the Section is the first sports club to have been awarded the Fair Play for Planet label.

Beyond the passion for sport, rugby also provides great economic leverage for the territories. Each match at the Hameau stadium in Pau, is a celebration that attracts thousands of supporters (except during the health crisis), generates activities and catalyzes local amateur clubs.

TotalEnergies is undergoing a transformation to meet the challenge of climate change, and the transition is bringing us closer to the local territories. Renewable energies are much more local than oil and gas, and our new activities are particularly well developed in South West France.
