PAU AI Festival: Total takes first prize

  • 700 participants including around 300 students from prestigious schools and universities took part in the Hackathon Data Challenge in Pau.
  • One of the teams presenting the Total theme on “Detecting duplicates in images” won first prize.
  • Total Exploration & Production and its DataLab are proud to support local initiatives on forward-looking scientific subjects.

The DataLab based at the CSTJF in Pau and in Paris, the purpose of which is to propose Data Management solution, was a partner for the 3rd edition of the Pau AI Festival. The all-digital event, open to all, took place on December 4-6, 2020.

Total’s topic extremely popular

The first prize in the Data Challenge was awarded to a group of students working on the topic proposed by Total: “Detecting duplicates in images”. Note that of the four topics for the Hackathon, the one proposed by Total attracted the most students: of the 300 present, 13 groups (of between 4 and 6 students) chose the DataLab topic to get started in the competition.

The DataLab team followed the groups throughout the weekend to support and encourage them.
After the jury’s deliberations, four students from the ENSAE Paris were awarded first prize. Three other groups of students also received awards.

Great organization, atmosphere, solidarity and intensity - as a sponsor the Total Exploration & Production DataLab is proud of the enthusiasm created by the event in Pau, which gains ground every year. It reflects Total’s keenness to be involved in local initiatives as a long-standing player in the region, and also its desire to support young people in high-potential sectors.

The prize-winning groups now have a budget to continue working on their respective solutions. Total already has plans to delve deeper into the solution presented by the winning group and would like to continue to work with the talented team and possibly with other students who stood out from the crowd.
